SchoolStatus worked with LearnPlatform by Instructure to develop a reliable evidence base for district and school communications
RIDGELAND, Miss. – August 1, 2023 – SchoolStatus, a leader in K-12 data and communications, has earned Level IV certification based on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) by “demonstrating rationale” for its impact on school-family relationship outcomes according to ESSA standards of evidence.
SchoolStatus worked with educational research company LearnPlatform to develop an evidence-based report and logic model articulating how implementing SchoolStatus impacts relevant student outcomes.
The report found that:
“In the immediate term, educators experience more meaningful and impactful communication with families/caregivers…Administrators benefit from the improved efficiency of district and school-wide operations. Additionally, the use of advanced communication platforms ensures better privacy and data protection, safeguarding sensitive information. For families/caregivers, these advancements result in a greater sense of connection to their children’s educators and the school. They also will feel more involved in their children’s learning journey.
“In the long-term, students experience measurable improvements in their academic achievement, including standardized test outcomes. They are less likely to be chronically absent due to increased and earlier attendance monitoring. High school graduation rates increase as a result of timely academic interventions. Students also feel more supported by their families and caregivers. Educators are better equipped to meet the diverse learning needs of all students and enjoy a higher work-life balance with easier and more efficient school-home communications. Administrators foster a culture that values data and Family input, leading to an improved school climate and a stronger connection between educators and the wider school community. Families and caregivers become more engaged in their school community and show increased responsiveness to school communications.”
Based on this work, SchoolStatus was awarded a Level IV badge, showing there is a solid rationale behind the product outcomes based on accepted education research, a recommended approach for how districts can implement SchoolStatus with fidelity, and appropriate usage metrics for tracking.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that federal funds be allocated only to programs that meet certain standards of evidence-based interventions. According to Instructure, the average district accesses over 1400 EdTech tools every month. The ESSA badges help school and district leaders choose solutions that are backed by high-quality research.
